When the little man was born he was extremely poorly and had to stay in the special care unit for two weeks on very strong antibiotics due to meningitis. His suction skills weren’t that great either and he found it hard to latch on to the bottle.
After what felt like an eternity of being stuck in bed on the ward following my cesarean, the big man was finally allowed to wheel me down to see the little man. When we arrived at our destination I wasn’t at all suprised to see him sucking away on a dummy, that looked far to big for his tiny little face 🙂
I understand some parents may not be happy with their baby being given a dummy without their permission, I didn’t mind at all. As long as it improved his suction skills he could have his dummy for as long as he wanted.
And that is how it has always been. Ever since the little man met his new best friend they have been inseparable. Now that he’s getting bigger he loves nothing more than to bite his way through his dummies. So much so, he is going through one a week.
Normally we pick some up on our weekly shopping trip. I was an extremely naughty mummy this week and completely forgot to pick some up. The little man was left without his dummy and only his cranky (his soft teddy blanket) for comfort.
Me and the big man didn’t have any idea how the night ahead would plan out and expected a restless night ahead of us. We even dug out his ‘too big for his face (keepsake) dummy but he looked at us as if we were crazy and giving him a toy.
Munmmy and daddy were very impressed with the little man for doing so well and going to bed and sleeping all night without his dummy. I have a strong feeling this may have been a one off though because as soon as he awoke the next morning the baby dummy was in his mouth 🙂
Now that I have learnt my ways, I have stocked up on the dummies once again as just live in hope that he grows out of the attack of the dummy that he has come to love.
