Day out with my boys

What a perfect family day…

I am sure you are all aware of how much I love family days with my two boys and today was no exception.

We started our day quite early, all three of us up, dressed and leaving the house at 10.45am. (the little man still woke earlier than normal even though we had a restless night – finally falling asleep at 4am)

The first stop was to purchase the boys’ outfits for my ‘soon-to-be’ godson’s christening on Sunday. Why are men so quick when it comes to shopping? The first shop we went to, both of them had full outfits for the day!!

Me on the other hand couldn’t find anything that I liked or that fitted right. I must have picked up about 20 different dresses but none seemed to fall properly at all.

Soon it was time to stop for lunch, so we settled down In the glorious sunshine for a bite to eat and to restore our energy levels.

Then it was back into the ‘dress hunt’ again. I was adamant that I would find one. I had no choice really.. I knew what style I was after but the shops must have been having a ‘lets just sell to skinnie-Minnie’s’ week or month!!!

The only shop left that I could think of was one of the oldest shops around in our local shopping centre – where I used to spend my pocket money when I was younger, so I didn’t hold much hope..

(what harm can it do? At least I can say I have looked!!)

And there it was, my perfect dress right in front of my eyes sparkling ever so brightly as if luring me to buy it.
I’m not going to lie, I got a little bit excited and did a pretty little twirl right there in the changing room as soon as i saw how it looked once on.

I told the big man firmly,Forget the price tag, my feet are killing and it’s coming home with me, no questions!!

I couldn’t resist picking out my accessories now that I had ‘THE DRESS’ ๐Ÿ™‚

After four hours of waking, searching every shop possible and gasping for a coffee, we headed back home.

We stopped of at the local barbers and the big man and little man were in desperate need of getting there mops chopped!!

All of my little boy’s curls have gone.. His beautiful ginger curls. He looks so much more grown up now and even more like his daddy ๐Ÿ™‚

Mummy thinks next time she will be In charge and will keep it a little bit longer on the top ๐Ÿ™‚

What a perfect family day..

Shake that wobble..

Most of you will know that I have started to shake my wobble and tone up a little bit.. Or maybe a lot. I mean, Cesarean sections definitely leave a little to much hanging around afterwards don’t they?

So I developed a whole lot of courage and decided to start running a few weeks back. I was so excited. I even went as far as planning what nights I would run, making sure it didn’t clash with my Pilates… go me, how organised!!

I was all geared up ready for my run, dressed in my new workout clothes, iPhone in hand, with all my wonderful thought out power Ballard’s that I had created on a playlist for the occasion…

It was not to be, it was as if my alter ego couldn’t possibly stand the thought of being seen running through the streets resembling a teletubby.

My headphones wouldn’t work!!!

I couldn’t do it.. I couldn’t bring myself to go out running without some music. I knew that if I were to go out on a run, I would have just walked (again my will power is ridiculously weak!!) I even searched the house upside down for the big mans headphones. That’s how excited I had become, I was quite gutted actually and took a moment to feel sorry for my little old wobbly self.

At least if I had my headphones in I would be able to concentrate on my music rather than watching the people staring at me that wouldn’t actually be staring at me.

It’s such a scary thought going for a run all alone!

I decided that I would purchase some new headphones as soon as possible. I didn’t want to put my running mission off, I know me and I know that if I didn’t act quick I would lose all interest in running all together and I couldn’t let that happen.

Before I went to buy some new headphones the big man found his.. I got a little bit excited that I could go running sooner rather than later. BUT, they didn’t work either. My poor phone was broke, 16 days after my warranty had run out would you believe!!

I couldn’t believe it, I clearly wasn’t destined to run at all. I even tried some of my friend’s headphones just incase the big mans were faulty, again I had the same outcome…

My phone no longer loved me.

Still not happy that my phone was not playing nice and affecting my plans, I decided to play Sherlock. After numerous forums it seemed that this problem was quite common. So I took it upon myself to reset my phone (after backing up all my precious pictures and video’s of the little man)… It worked, my phone decided to play nice and loved me once again ๐Ÿ™‚

I was so happy, that within half an hour I was dressed in my new workout clothes and headed out the door on my first run in a good few years.

I had my music blaring as I let the world pass me by. The best bit about it all? I got to shake my wobble looking like a teletubby without a care in the world.

I can’t wait for my next run on Monday. Hopefully I’m not in too much pain tomorrow.

And to my wonderful headphones, I love you more than you will ever know ๐Ÿ˜‰

#fitnessfanaticfridays week 2

Week 2 has come around fast…

I can’t believe we are into the second week already. I have been so busy all week that it only dawned on me last night that its the big weigh in for me today ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I haven’t exercised as much as I should have this week, but I have tried to be good with my food choices.

At work I have still opted for the soup as its very filling and it doesn’t tend to bloat me throughout the day. On hungrier days I normally grab a whole meal roll to give me that extra fill for the rest of the day.

I really must start getting into the habit of eating breakfast too. I find I get obscenely hungry throughout the day if I eat breakfast though. Does anyone else have this problem? maybe it will pass in time when my body becomes used to being force fed food as soon as its on the move.

Over the weekend I am going to put together a meal plan for the week ahead. This will then hopefully keep me organised throughout the week and I can prevent the naughty treats a little more ๐Ÿ™‚

Once I have purchased my ingredients online (I can’t imagine purposely ruining my weekend by rushing around in a packed out Asda) I can decide what we are having and when.

So this past weeks efforts have led me to lose a total 2LBS!! I’m very impressed with this considering my exercise was lacking somewhat this week.

I will check on my inches tonight and add them next week (scary!!!) to see if there has been a difference.

How did you do this week? I’d love to hear what you have been doing for #fitnessfanaticfriday ๐Ÿ™‚

A Summer Full Of Peaches: Blogger Link Up Fitness Fanatic Fridays

#Fitnessfanaticfridays week 1

For those of you who read my blog often, you will know how horrendous I have been at sticking to my weightloss goals. (For those of you that haven’t.. come back more often lol) Its actually really shocking how little willpower I have when it comes to toning up and losing some weight. I normally get all geared up and raring to go for the first couple of weeks and the slowly but surely it gets less and less and then Bang… all is forgotten and Im back to my bad snacking ways.

Last week I got the kick up the bum that I very much needed to kickstart me back onto my weighloss mission. I aim to take up my running again AND stick to it this time and also add some Pilates sessions in there aswell. GO me… I can feel the pain already.

I have Joined the Linky #FitnessFanaticFridays. This is a place where people are all aiming to achieve their own goals and at their own pace.It will be nice to share tips with each other and also to support each other when our weeks don’t seem to be going as planned. Here are my changes that included in my day to day lifestyle this past week.

I’m not going to lie, I am a massive food lover. To cut out my favourites would result in a massive fail for me so that a definate NO NO. So instead I have decided to make some changed to my day to day routine:

I normally don’t tend to eat breakfast.. I know, I know its the most important meal of the day. But with me if I eat breakfast it normally makes me hungry for the rest of the day. This week though I have either been having porridge or a special K bar with some fruit (quite often apple’s as we have an unlimited supply at work)

Usually I would normally grab something quick on the way to work, a ready made sandwitch or a pasta salad along with a packet of crisps if I was peckish. Recently though I have been opting for Soup instead with a wholemeal roll. Depending how I feel I sometime get a clean (no added mayo) salad to fill me up some more.

This is normally what ever the big man makes but recently he has been using recipes from one of my favourite recipe site www.minimins.com.

and he has even been changing the cooking oil to a low cal cooking spray ๐Ÿ™‚

Normally a trip the vending machine would be my first port of call for a snack, however this week I have mainly been snacking on pepper and celery sticks (I’m good aren’t I?)

I walk ALOT. I don’t own a car so if I need to get somewhere I tend to walk if its within a 2-3 mile radius. This week though I have been quitting the lifts at work and tackling the stairs… Five flights each time.
And ohh does it burn. They do say you can tell if it is working if you can feel it so I guess there is a light at the end of the tunnel ๐Ÿ™‚

I will be weighing myself tomorrow and taking my measurements. I will keep a track of these so I can look back on my good weeks. This will hopefully keep me motivated to carry on when things start to slow down.

What have you done this week? Please feel free to add some of your tips from this week.

Bring on next week and happy #fitnessfanaticfriday ๐Ÿ™‚

Afternoon delights

Have you ever been for afternoon tea?

I must admit the idea of of going for afternoon tea had never really crossed my mind and I can honestly say that if my wonderful friends (with fantastic taste and recommendations) hadn’t suggested it I probably wouldn’t have ever gone to one.

I’m so glad we did, I had a wonderful time. We decided to go to one local to us so that we wouldn’t have to travel very far. Our local tea room is based in Manchester just off Deansgate, down a quiet side street behind House of Frazier.

The interior is beautiful, it’s quite spacious with tables and chairs evenly set out around the restaurant as well big comfy looking leather seats to the back and around the sides. The place had some what of a calming feel too with some lovely power ballads playing in the background.

The cocktails looked gorgeous too.

The menu is quite good and has a nice selection to choose from. If you feel like having something light you may possibly want to go for ‘the cream tea’. With this you get a scone with cream and jam and a choice of loose leaf tea or coffee for only ยฃ5.45 per person. For the full range I have attached the menu below ๐Ÿ™‚

You can find all of this and more at http://www.47kingstreetwest.co.uk

I decided on the 47’s afternoon tea. My treats arrived on a wonderful three tiered platter and consisted of a selection of sandwiches cut into pretty little triangles and decorated with twisted cucumber and halved cherry tomatoes. There was a mixture of fillings:

*Beef and horseradish
*Salmon and cream cheese
*Tuna and cucumber
*Cheese and tomato
*Egg and cress

The scones with the fresh cream and jam was by far my favourite. I could quite happily get by day to day eating this wonderful goodness. (Not that this would be healthy in anyway shape or form) ๐Ÿ˜‰
Finally on the top tier you get a selection of mini cakes and chocolate surrounded by sliced strawberries. Our cakes were a mixture of:

*Carrot cake
*Lemon drizzle cake
*Miniature chocolate and fruit cupcake

I have always been one to be different, so it was only fair that I had a delicious cappuccino to follow. If coffee is an option then nothing else will come close.

I would highly recommend this restaurant and the staff were very nice. We didn’t feel rushed even though it was quite busy. We ended up staying for a good few hours and it seemed that the afternoon tea had finished by the time we were ready to go.

I will most definitely be going again some time in the near future. (The big man doesn’t know it yet but he shall be taking me)

So if you would like a nice relaxed afternoon out, whether it be to catch up with friends, just to chill out or some quality time with that special someone in your life then book a table today. I’m sure you will love it as much as I did.

Ladies that Lunch

Who needs to go on a night out to have fun? Not me..

Who needs lots of alcohol to have a good time? Not me..

Who needs to feel rubbish the next morning because I am such a lightweight? Not me…

Who wants to wake up the next morning feeling fresh as a daisy with the little man plotting his next act of mischief? This would definitely be me ๐Ÿ™‚

How I hear you ask?

The week after next will mark the birthday of one of my lovely ladies. And to celebrate this wonderful occasion we shall be attending Afternoon Tea in town. What better way to spend quality time with friends at the same time as pretending to be posh.

I love little dinner dates like this, it means that we can all have a brilliant time and catch up on what we have been doing to keep ourselves out of trouble (or getting into) since our last little outing. And it also means I get to have my coffee fix too, with mini cakes. Yes, Mini cakes are allowed as they are smaller on the eye and it is a celebration after all ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am still unsure what to wear for this occasion. I am sure keeping it simple with some accessories should do the trick and maybe add a little bit of makeup so I look like I have made the effort and look a little less mummsy.

I’m a bit excited that I get to pretend to be a lady of leisure for one afternoon with my lovely’s. I’m sure One day that massive night out will arrive, I just don’t think I am ready for that wild experience just yet. Maybe when the little man is about 10 or at least staying over at his grandparents house so that I can recover properly.

Soup Glorious Soup

Soup Glorious Soup

I can never remember being a big soup fan. The thought of drinking something for my dinner or tea never really apealled to me and I could never imagine that it would fill me for long. The Mister sometimes doesn’t mind soup and he will help himself to some every now and again, but last week we found cans of the stuff in the cupboard that haven’t been touched. I Couldn’t quite believe that some of the tins in there had been out of date since 2011. Maybe I should clear out the cupboards more often :0

Another reason why I have never been a big soup fan is that I have always associated Soup with illness. And throughout my childhood my Grandma always swore by soup for common colds and the like. I know a few people who have been brought up with the same theory and that chicken soup is especially good. Psychologically, maybe I didnt want soup because I didnt want to be ill as this would mean i couldnt play outside with my friends.

It has only been recently that I have taken an interest in soup. I have started to eat this (see i said eat, not drink ๐Ÿ™‚ ) at work. It all stemmed from when I decided to give myself a massive kick up the behind on my God-Mummy countdown, that I thought soup is supposed to be good for the soul and may aide me in my weightloss mission. And I have to say I am amazed by how filling it actually is.

I have started to enjoy soup, so much so, that I have even started to make my own from scratch so that I can freeze these little portions of loveliness to take to work for my lunch. With the method that this will then keep the beast at bay and keep me away from the shop of all things evil downstairs!!!!

I did my first batch last week and I was extremely proud of myself for making this little creation. I even took our hand blender out for the first time and put this baby to use. Needless to say it will now be out more often ๐Ÿ™‚ My soup was a bit of a concoction that I rustled up and it went down quite well in the mamma-bear household.

I used:
– Frozen baby carrots (however any type should be fine)
– 100mls vegetable stock
– 1 large onion, diced
– 1 tsp cumin
– 1 tsp corriander
– ground black pepper

– Fry Onions in a pan with Low-Cal cooking oil for 2-3 mins. Add vegetable stock, cumin and corriander and add carrots. Bring to the boil and then cook on a moderate heat for 20 mins. You may want to add more cumin or corriander depending on your taste. Whip out the hand blender and blend until you get a consistensy that you like. I prefer mine to be relatively smooth with some chunks in there.
Maybe throw in some added herbs or spices and see what you can make of it. This is a perfect meal for the ever changing weather conditions that we have had recently. A perfect warm up in an instant ๐Ÿ™‚

Next week I am going to try my hand at Curried Parsnip soup. I will let you know of the outcome sometime soon.
